Brozena's Goal Lifts Bloomsburg Field Hockey to Win

MANSFIELD--Maribeth Brozena's (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) goal with 36 seconds to play in overtime lifted the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 3-2, overtime win against Mansfield University Tuesday afternoon.

Bloomsburg, the top-ranked team in Division II, rallied from two, one-goal deficits in the game.

Mansfield (5-8, 3-6 PSAC) opened the scoring just 1:32 into the game when Ryanne Higgins scored off a Breanne Tobin assist. The Huskies tied the score at 1-1 when Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) scored on a penalty corner at the 8:18 mark.

The Mountaineers went back in front at the 21:17 mark when Tobin scored from an assist by Shana Markwis. The Huskies, though, came back once more with Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scoring unassisted at 28:27.

After a scoreless second half, the Huskies dominated the action in overtime getting off seven shots to just two for Mansfield. It wasn't till near the end of the extra session that Brozena scored off an Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) assist on a penalty corner to end the game.

The Huskies improved to 12-0, 8-0 in the PSAC, with the win. Bloomsburg will host IUP on Saturday at noon.
